On March 26, 2009, the Asian Pacific American legal community gathered at the National Press Club to raise funds to support public interest fellowships for law students.
The Dinner featured a keynote address by D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee and also honored Sunil Mansukhani, Executive Director of the D.C. Access to Justice Commission, for his longstanding service to the Asian Pacific American community in the D.C. area. Sherri Ly of Fox5 served as the evening’s emcee.
The Dinner grossed almost $60,000 to support summer public interest fellowships for law students.
“The AEF Board is grateful that the D.C. legal community came out to support the law students,” said AEF President Taron Murakami. “We are excited that the legal community recognizes that their support of public interest work is important, especially in difficult economic times.”
Over 200 guests attended the Dinner, which was sponsored by numerous entities and individuals.
AEF also announced the advent of the AEF Bar Assistance Grant, sponsored in part by BAR/BRI.
